This assignment was inspired by the Dada movement. I thought it would be amusing to depict the Mona Lisa in a humorous style since it is such a serious painting.
Artist Statement: I utilized a template created by Sirisako, here is a link to it: https://www.unsell.design/free-indesign/free-blue-interior-portfolio-indesign-template/ I wanted to go for a simplistic design for my portfolio to put an emphasis on the pieces I present. I have an artist statement and sketches/work-in-progress images to give the viewer a better sense of my creative process.
I felt like the photo I found was very engaging/relevant to the subject of my postcard. I felt like the font I used on the back is something I would see on a postcard so that's why I selected that one. I also added the lines to sign it and a space for the stamp.
Artist Statement 1: I decided to use two colors that are pleasing to the eye when combined. I tried to use some humor here. I was unsure what to do on the back, but in hindsight I would've put the top text lower because it is almost cut off on the top. Artist Statement 2: I was influenced by the Ying Yang symbol for this design. I feel like the Ying Yang is pretty universally considered to be pleasing to the eye, which is why I chose it. It is also pretty simplistic which I feel would help someone have their eye gravitate toward the important features (the logo and the info). Artist Statement 3: I decided on this design because I am a film major and wanted to do one relevant to film. I feel like it could use a little more detail but I also feel like its simplicity helps in its effectiveness.
